Lincoln plaque unveiled by The Queen to be cleaned up in time for diamond jubilee
A plaque unveiled by The Queen when she opened Pelham Bridge more than 50 years ago will be restored in time for her diamond jubilee next year.
During her first visit to Lincoln after her coronation, HRH Queen Elizabeth II braved torrential rain to declare the landmark structure open on June 27, 1958. On the reverse of the plinth commemorating the occasion is another plaque, in honour of the Pelham Bridge Committee. Time and the elements have aged the monument and someone even threw tomato sauce at the plaque.
